2025 Ram 1500 REV Car Review

Published On

The anticipated fully electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV pickup truck is a first-generation Ram product; hence, it's quite a big deal. Following in the footsteps of previously existing full-size EV trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, the REV offers a long range as well as exceptional towing capacity. The REV is a battery-powered variant of the Ram 1500. The Ram 1500 REV, like its future competitors, retains a sturdy body-on-frame chassis and is pinstriped with enough LED lights to cover a small runway. While the concept Ram EV was a crazily futuristic vehicle with various bizarre characteristics, the final version resembles its gas-powered counterpart. The REV will be first presented as a crew-cab variant with a short bed. According to Ram, two battery packs will be available, the largest of which will be adequate for up to 500 miles of driving. Depending on the upgrades, the REV will be able to tow up to 14,000 pounds. Ram claims that it will employ an 800-volt design that will enable rapid DC fast-charging speeds. While the gasoline-powered Ram’s days aren’t over, the EV version is a nod to the aging truck’s future replacement.

Pros Cons
Strong range, quick charging Diluted but great concepts
Big frunk Range might fall when towing, like all trucks
Impressive payload and towing stats

What’s New for 2025

The 2025 Ram 1500 EV will be an entirely new vehicle and the first Ram pickup truck powered only by electricity.

Reservations have already begun, but the Ram 1500 REV will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2024. The Chevrolet Silverado EV will have hit the market by then, and Ford will have had even more time to enhance the F-150 Lightning. However, by chasing after its main opponents, Ram has a chance to outperform them all.

A 1500 REV XR variant, which we think is the one with the gas range extender, is scheduled to follow the rest of the lineup.

Pricing and Trims

The pricing of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV has yet to be disclosed, but we estimate it to start around $60,000 for the basic Tradesman trim. This is a sophisticated full-size truck that will most likely only be available in a Crew Cab body type, so the more premium Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten trims will not be cheap. Furthermore, the Ford F-150 Lightning already starts at slightly under $60,000, while the Ram is still more than 18 months away.

EV Motor

Ram will sell the 1500 REV with two distinct battery packs, each with its own set of benefits. To begin, all packages come standard with all-wheel drive. The vehicle with the 168-kWh battery will be less expensive, capable of towing more, and have 654 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. The model with the bigger 229.0-kWh battery is currently unknown, but we anticipate lower maximum towing capability due to the increased curb weight that comes with the larger pack. According to Ram, the acceleration time to 60 mph will be roughly 4.4 seconds. The Ram 1500 EV will have four-wheel steering for sharper turns in the garage or on the street. Like the existing vehicle, it will have an adjustable air suspension that raises the truck for off-road usage and lowers it for highway economy and ease of loading.

Range and Battery

While all-wheel drive is standard on every Ram 1500 REV, the electric pickup receives two distinct battery sizes. A smaller 168.0-kWh battery should provide a range of up to 350 miles. Ram anticipates that the bigger 229.0-kWh battery will provide at least 500 miles of range. The truck's 800-volt design will enable DC fast-charging of up to 350.0 kWh. During ideal charging, that equates to around 100 miles of range per 10 minutes.

Capacity for Towing and Payload

The 1500 REV will have a towing capability of up to 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2700 pounds, according to Ram. That is for the smaller battery pack. We believe Ram REVs with bigger batteries will tow less because of the increased curb weight. The F-150 Lightning currently has an official maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.

Interior

For a long time, the gas-powered Ram has provided a sumptuous cabin with higher-quality materials than its competitors, and we don't expect that to alter with its conversion to battery power. The absence of an engine and other heavy powertrain components in the fully electric Ram 1500 promises to provide ingenious methods for cowboys and contractors to enhance storage. Adjustable seats and storage compartments enable things up to 18 feet long to fit from the bed to the frunk. The motorized trunk, side stairs, and rear tailgate make the full-size truck simple to operate, enter, and exit. A bigger Ram Box with a multifunctional tailgate is also depicted on the concept and will most likely be incorporated into the production pickup's kit list. The concept's cab is 4.0 inches longer than the current Ram 1500 crew cab, and it has a set of jump seats that convert to a third row.

Infotainment

The interior entertainment system of the Ram 1500 EV concept is controlled by two 14.5-inch touchscreens. There's also a 360-degree camera, digital side mirrors, and a head-up display, as well as voice help from both Android's Alex and Apple's Siri. The infotainment system in the vehicle also has a Smart Home Control function, which allows passengers to control lights, cameras, thermostats, and music systems at home from the front seat. Wireless phone charging, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are expected to be standard features on the EV truck, as they are on the gas-powered Ram.

Competitive Cars

Ram 1500 REV vs. Ford F-150 Lightning

Ram's new 1500 REV has arrived with all guns blazing, with a range of up to 500 miles, a towing capability of 14,000 pounds, and DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This is the truck designed only to ruin the Ford F-150 Lightning's party. Perhaps this is why the 1500 REV doesn't seem too different from ordinary Ram pickups, just as the Lightning still looks like an F-150 in profile.

With up to 654 horsepower, the Ram isn't quite as speedy as the F-150 Lightning, but its concentration on the areas that truck customers care about, such as strong payload and cargo capacity stats, appears more significant.

Ram 1500 REV vs. Rivian R1T

The Ram 1500 REV doesn’t have full disclosure of all information yet, but the advancements in charging and networking functions just edge out the Rivian R1T. One of the more impressive aspects of the new Ram idea is its potential to get 100 miles of range in just ten minutes. This is due to the greater effective charging rate of 350 kilowatts, which is more than any other production electric truck currently on the market.

Rivian's R1T is another new entrant in the electric truck industry. The range of the Rivian R1T with the most efficient configuration is 400 miles when empty.
