Stellantis recalled 2021 through 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokees

Owners of Jeep Grand Cherokees manufactured between 2021 and 2023 may soon receive a recall notice due to a fault with the SUVs' coil springs. Stellantis reports that a total of 331,401 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models may have had wrongly installed rear coil springs. The recall affects 217,099 Grand Cherokee L and 114,302 Grand Cherokee SUVs. Grand Cherokees with optional air suspension are excluded.

  • According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fault could affect around 331,000 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs manufactured between 2022 and 2023.
  • Owners of these vehicles will get a letter by July 28, and the problem will be resolved at no cost by the dealer.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study highlights a "potentially out-of-position rear coil spring" issue that happened during manufacture in May 2023, making it possible for the spring to detach while the car is in motion. The separation could result in a loss of control and raise the likelihood of an accident.

Two customer assistance records, 17 warranty claims, and two field report potentially related to the issue were made known to the company. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries caused by the faulty springs. According to the recall report, only around 13% of the 331,401 recalled vehicles are believed to have the fault, and Grand Cherokees built after May 31 are not affected.

Stellantis expects to notify owners about the current recall by late July. In the interim, Grand Cherokee owners can visit the NHTSA recalls page to see if their car is affected.
