Acura Motorsport unveiled the first images of its electrified Acura AR-06 LMDh prototype on Friday, sporting some of the best camouflaged ever for a race car. Beginning in 2023, it will join Cadillac, BMW, and Porsche to compete in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship hybrid power GTP category.

Cadillac is also scheduled to release the images of its car for the new class on June 9.

Short for Acura Racing Experimental, generation 6, the LMDh will replace the AR-05 which was built with the current Daytona Prototype International (DPi) rules. Like the AR-05, the AR-06 is built on a chassis from race car Oreca, but will have an Acura developed powertrain and bodywork, according to an Acura press release.

Acura intends to race the new car with current Acura Teams Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing. Thanks to these teams for delivering 24 hours of Daytona victories in 2021 and 2022.

Also, BMW is expected to return to top level prototype racing on June 6, with BMW M Hybrid V8 due to debut. Porsche and Lambo are also committed to LMDh, but the latter will not join until 2024.
